If you want to visit some of the less travelled roads and experience stunning spots you didn’t know existed, we have you covered. Take a look at our 7 stunning camping spots you probably haven’t been to.

1. Burbie Camp, Warrumbungle National Park, New South Wales

Burbie Camp is an easily accessible yet isolated camping spot that is located in the Warrumbungle National Park. It’s a walk-in-only campground, however, it’s only a 3km hike making it accessible for most people.

The camping spot itself offers only basic facilities, with a spot for a wood-fired barbecue and a tap of untreated spring water so you will need to carry in anything else you’ll need for your visit. However, this is perfect for those people who are looking to disconnect from modern life and be surrounded by nature. It’s common to encounter wallabies around your campsite and see wedge-tailed eagles in the sky.

2. Kalgan’s Pool, Western Australia

Located 1238 km from Perth, the drive to Kalgan’s Pool is just part of your camping adventure. A lot of the roads near the campground are rocky, featuring a number of creek crossings so be sure to make sure your 4WD is up to the task.

The remote camping spot offers plenty of space to set up camp near Kalgan’s Pool, a watering hole that is the perfect spot for a swim after such a long and dusty drive. The closest town is at least a 1.5-hour drive away so you’ll likely be surrounded by nothing but nature and wildlife.

3. Haunted Stream, Victoria

If you’re on the hunt for a great campground where you can also get some solid 4WDing in as well then Haunted Stream should be at the top of your list of must-visit campgrounds.

At just 17km long, the Haunted Stream track will take longer than expected to make it to your camp for the evening. You’ll cross the stream a number of times, so be sure to have a high-clearance 4WD if you’re going to visit. The hard drive means that the camping spot is often vacant and just waiting for the intrepid soul to visit.

The campgrounds are fairly basic so be sure to bring along anything you might need to enjoy an evening surrounded by the Victorian High country.

4. Emu Lake Campground, Kinchega National Park, New South Wales

Emu Lake is the perfect spot if you’re wanting to get out and experience some of the magic of The Outback. Expect to encounter any number of emu while camping as you’ll be deep in the Kinchega National Park where emu roam in vast numbers.

If you’re looking for a sense of being surrounded by nature, this is the perfect camping spot to visit. You’ll be surrounded by a vast array of native wildlife and the beauty that is Kinchega National Park. The camping spot offers a few facilities such as drop toilets, barbecue pits and picnic tables for you to kick back and relax.

5. North Zoe Bay, Queensland

If you’re looking for a real challenge and a camping spot that is well off the beaten track, you can’t go wrong with North Zoe bay on the eastern side of Hinchinbrook Island. This stunning camping spot is only accessible via sea kayak or canoe.

You can spend your day swimming in the beautifully warm waters of the bay or exploring the island via any of the numerous hiking tracks scattered around. You’ll need to bring your food and water in as the only facilities at the campgrounds are drop toilets.

6. Lake Gairdner, South Australia

Lake Gairdner is a spectacular camping spot to visit. As Australia’s third largest salt lake, you can’t help but be wowed by the bright white sand surrounded by red foothills for a striking contrast that is sure to stay firmly in your memories.

The camping grounds are located on the western side of the lake off Kingooya Road, just metres from the stunning dry salt lake. There are no facilities located at this free camping ground, however, the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape makes it more than worth a visit. This is a fairly remote campground, however, that remoteness leads to some gorgeous nighttime stargazing from the comfort of your camp.

7. Sealers Cove, Wilson’s Promontory National Park, Victoria

If you’re looking for a campground where you can enjoy the golden sands and clear waters, then Sealers Cove is perfect. Located on the Eastern side of Wilson’s Promontory, Sealers Cove is an easy 10km hike from the Telegraph Saddle trailhead. Sheltered from most winds, the gorgeous cove is a stunning spot to spend a few nights away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
