It’s no surprise then that it’s also a fisherman’s paradise. And for good reason. The Gold Coast is well known for its spectacular fishing and it doesn’t tend to disappoint. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, the Gold Coast can provide you with some of the best fishing in Australia.

But, with so many fishing spots to choose from, it can be difficult trying to decide where to spend your day. With so many options and fishing zones, you’ll need days to explore them all.

It’s famous for its sun, surf, sandy beaches, Broadwater, skyscrapers and pristine waterways. With so much going for it, the GC is a much-loved metropolis located in Australia’s sunshine state. The Gold Coast is known as a bustling tourist and entertainment hub. It’s well-loved for its miles of golden beaches and beautiful spots that are right on our doorstep.

1. Tweed River

Not only is Tweed River a beautiful area to just relax and spend some time in, but it also has some pretty great fishing spots as well. The banks are full of weedy areas where Flathead like to congregate. You’ll also find plenty of Mangrove Jack around the rocky areas for you to spend a few peaceful hours hunting.

2. Currumbin Creek

If you want the option of some land-based fishing and the possibility to head out in a kayak, you’re in luck. Currumbin Creek is an excellent spot to go fishing for Bream, Whiting, Flathead and Mangrove Jack. You can even try your hand at Bass in the warmer months.

3. Pine Lake, Elanora

Pine Lake is a fantastic option for anyone who is new to the wonders of the fishing world. This is one of those easy spots where you can get used to the motions of fishing while reeling in some smaller catch. It’s also a great place to take the kids when you’re first teaching them how to fish.

4. Jacobs Well

Located near the mouth of the Pimpama River, Jacobs Well is one of those spots you can only dream about. Think pristine waterways spotted with uninhabited islands, channels, creeks and rivers. The town itself is a fantastic spot to launch a tinny or small boat. The fish are always biting here and the area is well-known for producing monster Flathead for any brave enough to give it a go.

5. Cudgen Creek, Kingscliff

Cudgen Creek is one of those picturesque spots that you would find on a postcard. You’ll find it just south of the Gold Coast in Kingscliff. It also offers some fantastic opportunities to drop a line. Take a spot on the rocks near the mouth of the river and wait for the fish to start biting.

6. Tallebudgera Creek

Known to the locals as Tally Creek, Tallebudgera Creek offers a world of delight for anyone wanting to take the family out for a day of fish wrangling.

Jump on a tinny and head out to the mouth of the river to have a go at some Flathead. If you’re looking for a real challenge, there is a deep hole underneath the bridge for you to try your hand at. This really deep hole is an absolute gold mine, so be sure you’re ready for some decent sized fish.

7. Broadwater Jetty

Southport’s Jetty has quickly become a favourite among locals for a good reason. It’s a great location where you can get access to ocean catch without heading out on a boat. It’s also a fantastic spot to get a little night fishing in if you were hoping to catch a few Squid.

Look for water depths of approximately 10m to 60m in winter or even 100m in summer and you’re sure to find some Snapper.
